Two beaches, a spit, a harbourfront, an ex and a park... by bike + subway!
The "Long Run"
Take you're bike on the TTC subway east to 'Main Street' station, then the elevator to the street... and you're on your way - at about 30 kms/hr all downhill - on a bike ride through Toronto's wonderful Beaches neighbourhood and west along The Beach.
- Use the TTC map (pdf) and Toronto Cycling Map to better find your way.
- Fares are: $2.75 (large) one way, and $0.70 (medium + small). A TTC weekend and holiday family pass (two adults + four children) is only $9.00!
To stay safe and get the most out of this sample route, print up these maps from the Waterfront Trail - map one - Beach pdf, map two - Spit pdf, map three - Union pdf, map four - High Park pdf.
- On Main Street, take Bike Route #59 south - use caution over the overpass.
- Follow the blue bike route signs closely, right turn at Glen Ames is hidden by leaves.
Cycle the bikepath and boardwalk west along Woodbine Beach and Ashbridge's Bay, from there choose from rides to the Leslie Street Spit and/or Cherry Beach. The Portlands, Distillery District and St. Lawrence Market are all along the way, and that's all before Yonge St!
* Please note: the bikepath at the exit of Redpath Sugar mills can get a little "sticky"!
- End your ride early at Broadview subway station (consult your Toronto Cycling Map - for the Don River Valley trail north and shortcut through Riverdale Park) or end half way at Union Station's subways, trains and GO buses.
Or continue on, and ride with care (no bike lane for a little while) as you marvel at the marvels of Queen's Quay and Harbourfront, on your way to the bikepath west past The Ex and Ontario Place.
From there it a simple ride north through High Park to the north gates and High Park subway on Bloor St.

Take the GO train!: Do the same route (almost) between GO Danforth train station (east) to the train at Mimico station (west).
