BikesandTransit.com is please to introduce you to Oshawa! - a great cycling destination, with a little help from transit! This suggested daytrip is a combination of GO Train and GO Bus and bike. Not to worry, going "inter-modal" means there's no traffic, and in just over an hour from downtown Toronto you'll find yourself - and your bike - at the downtown trailhead of the Oshawa Creek Trail (find it on the south side of King - behind the Scotia Bank - just west of the GO Bus stop at King & Centre St.).
Take the whole day, because there's lot to see, and be prepared for everything from smooth and wide asphalt bikeways to gravel paths, to some shady riding on trampled grass. The Oshawa Creek Trail is about five kilometres to the Waterfront Trail. Then it's 10k east to Darlington Provincial Park (bring a picnic lunch!). After a serene lakeside rest, head back for a great 20 kilometre Waterfront Trail ride west to catch the GO Train (or GO Bus) home at the Whitby GO Train station.
Along the way you can't miss, and won't ever forget: McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve Trail, Second Marsh Wildlife Area, Lakeview Park, Pumphouse Marsh and Lakefront Park West.
