Click an orange waypoint to see just a few of many great local transit stops to get off at and ride your bike. Durham, Toronto, Burlington, Hamilton, West Niagara, Lake Simcoe - every route makes for a great day that's easy on your budget and our environment.
BikesandTransit.com is a local tourism and green transportation project that encourages new inter-modal travel behaviours. The site aims to help you get more out of nearby - and not too far away - bike lanes, bikeways and bike trails, by connecting you and your bicycle up with municipal and regional transit.
In this Year 3 of the project - the website has been updated to take advantage of new satellite mapping technologies - print up a pdf, view a kml, or download a google map or gdb file - they're all here to see, try and return for comment.
Here's a few sample bikes and transit route maps to view, print and download - more coming soon! Garmin gdb downloads are at the foot of each route page.
- Google Earth: High Park to Broadview by TTC Subway .kml
Google Earth: Ajax GO Train to Pickering .kml - Google Maps: The Don Valley - Leslie to Union Station by TTC Subway
Google Maps: Aldershot GO Train to Hamilton Harbour - Waterfront Trail: Hamilton to Toronto .pdf
Waterfront Trail: Grimsby to Niagara .pdf
Come back each week: for new bikes and transit route additions. Next up: Up (and down) the mighty Humber Valley by bike and TTC Subway; and Cycling the Trans Canada Trail from Hamilton's McMaster University by GO Bus... So stay tuned!
BikesandTransit.com is made possible through encouragement from members of the informal regional Bikes and Transit Partnership:
- GO Transit, Toronto Transit Commission, Coach Canada, Hamilton Street Railway Company, Smart Commute Hamilton + Metrolinx
- City of Toronto, City of Hamilton, City of Burlington, City of Pickering, Town of Ajax, Town of Whitby + Town of Grimsby
- Toronto and Region Conservation, Durham Tourism, Tourism Niagara, Waterfront Regeneration Trust + Trans Canada Trail
Thanks again to supporters and cyclists who took GO-by-Bike to Ajax! (2008) and Bikes+Transit.com (2009) to heart and helmet, and helped make for two great seasons of bikes, transit, trails, and the region's naturally amazing waterfronts and greenspaces!
What great days, what great daytrips!
